South Africa T20 League or SA20 is the nation's premier T20 league that features some of the most renowned athletes cricket has ever known.
The tournament began on January 10, 2023 and comprises six teams – Durban’s Super Giants, Joburg Super Kings, MI Cape Town, Paarl Royals, Pretoria Capitals and Sunrisers Eastern Cape – with 33 matches scheduled to determine the best team.
From local cricketers such as Faf du Plessis, Quinton de Kock, Kagiso Rabada and Rilee Rossouw, to name a few, to foreign players like Rashid Khan, Sam Curran, Alzarri Joseph, etc. feature in this competition.
South Africa is determined to make it an annual tournament in the hopes of becoming the second-biggest T20 league in the world. With players from several cricket-playing nations participating, SA20 guarantees giving fans an experience unlike any other.
The auction to determine the team formations took place on September 19, 2022, which saw Tristan Stubbs emerge as the highest purchase (Rand 9.2 million). Sunrisers Eastern Cape fought tooth-and-nail with MI Cape Town and Joburg Super Kings to snatch the country's up-and-coming talent.
After 22 matches, Pretoria Capitals sit at the top of the table with 5 wins and 2 losses in 7 matches. Durban's Super Giants linger at the bottom with 2 wins and 5 losses in as many games.
The points system in SAT20 League tournament is as follows -
Win - 4 points
No result - 2 points
Loss - 0 points
Bonus points - 1 extra point if a team wins with the run rate difference of 1.25 times
There are scenarios in place should there occur an event wherein teams finish on equal points in a match where one of the teams must progress to the next round -
The team with the most number of wins will qualify
If both teams have same number of wins, the team with the highest number of bonus points will qualify
If both teams have the same number of wins and same number of bonus points, the team with the better net run rate will qualify
If still undecided, the team with the most number of wins over the other will qualify
If the stats still fail to decide a qualifier, the team with the highest runs to wickets ratio throughout the tournament will qualify
If still undecided, the team with the highest wickets to runs ratio throughout the tournament will qualify
The SA20 league has six competing teams. There were bids conducted to own these teams, which were won by six Indian T20 League franchise owners.
Chennai Super Kings Cricket Limited, Reliance Industries Limited, JSW Sports, RPSG Sports Private Limited, Sun TV and Royals Sports Group successfully bid for the ownership of the teams.

Joburg Super Kings is a team led by former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis and is coached by Stephen Fleming. The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg is their home ground. India Cements had successfully bid for the ownership of this Johannesburg-based team

Paarl Royals is captained by David Miller and is based in Paarl, South Africa, with the home ground as Boland Park. The franchise is owned by Manoj Badale, who also owns the Rajasthan franchise in Indian T20 League. JP Duminy is the head coach of Paarl Royals

Sunrisers Eastern Cape is owned by the Sun Group and is based in Gqeberha. South Africa ace batter Aiden Markram leads the franchise, which is coached by Adrian Birrell. Eastern Cape play their home matches at the St George's Park
South Africa getting its own T20 League is good news for the country, as it will help them extract potential national players to represent in the long run.
The competition's association with the Indian T20 League teams is bound to grab many eyeballs. Furthermore, its popularity will soar as the matches progress.
The commencement date of South Africa T20 League is January 10 with the finals to be played on February 11. The month-long tourney will feature 33 matches, including knockout matches and the final.
The tournament will also see an 8-day break owing to the national team's hosting of England in three one-day international matches. The games will then resume on February 2 and conclude on February 11 with the final.
