5 Lowest Scores in IPL History

When T20 Cricket made its debut way back in 2003, very few had realised back then that this sport will reach the heights of success.
With the advent of Indian T20 League, the game of cricket has taken an all new ‘avatar’. The T20 IPL League has all the ingredients that of a Bollywood movie – glam, big hitting, climax endings, and some top-notch stars of world cricket.
Despite that, there have been moments wherein the batters have not come to the party or failed to capitalise on huge scores.
Many games have seen teams amassing totals over 150+ but as they say, cricket is a great leveller.
And that is why we have seen some low scores in the league that too by top teams. In what seems an eye-opener, there have been 38 times where a side has failed to go pass 100 runs.
We track down some of the lowest score in ipl history seasons gone by & were in the news for all the wrong reasons:
1. Bangalore all out on 49 vs Kolkata (2017)
One of the strangest games ever in the history of Indian T20 League took place between Bangalore and Kolkata in 2017 at Eden Gardens when Virat Kohli’s troops were sent packing for a dismal 49.
Bangalore’s batters failed to put on a show as Kolkata romped home to victory. As a matter of fact, Team Bangalore now holds the record of scoring the highest and lowest scores in IPL history.
2. Rajasthan’s 58 vs Bangalore (2009)
Team Rajasthan have also scripted their name in the record books for having a low score when they were bundled out for 58 against Bangalore in 2009.
The inaugural champions could not keep up with the likes of Anil Kumble, Praveen Kumar and Jesse Ryder’s bowling as their batters couldn’t muster up enough runs on the board as they recorded themselves in the history books of lowest scores in T20 IPL history.
3. Delhi’s 66 vs Mumbai (2017)
Team Delhi too came under the radar of some poor showing with the bat as well when their captain Zaheer Khan decided to bat first.
In what could have been, Delhi’s batters threw their wickets away cheaply as Mumbai’s bowlers ran through their batting line-up with much ease.
Eventually, Mumbai won the game, but Delhi’s batter was heavily criticised for their poor show on the day.
4. Delhi 67 vs Punjab (2017)
Team Delhi’s misfortunes weren’t over that easily as they again got out for a lowest score in T20 IPL of 67 vs Punjab in 2017 season.
Batting on a difficult Mohali track, Punjab’s Sandeep Sharma troubled the Delhi’s batters as the latter’s key players failed to put up a fight.
Punjab’s bowlers ran through the Delhi side with much ease as their season went from bad to worse.
5. Kolkata’s 67 vs Mumbai (2008)
After a blistering start in their 2008 season, Team Kolkata’s hopes came crashing down when they were beaten badly by Team Mumbai at the Wankhede stadium.
Sachin Tendulkar opted to bowl on a track that assisted the bowlers and they delivered. Kolkata’s batters couldn’t cope up with the pace and swing of Mumbai’s bowlers as they were bundled out for lowest score in IPL of 67.
Not a start that team owner Shah Rukh Khan had imagined for his team.
Conclusion:
Indian T20 League has majorly seen a great deal of fight between bat and ball. T20 games have hardly seen lowest score in T20 IPL especially in double-digits but lowest score in T20 IPL has got its own niche.
With the 2022 season around the corner, don’t be surprised to see yet another side to get bundled for a low score as we could see some quality bowling attack, it remains to be seen what is the lowest score of an IPL team!
