Longest Six In Indian T20 League History

The Indian T20 League or the IPL has served up every bit of entertainment right from the highest individual scores to best wicket haul.

Here, you get to see the best catches, fielding, batting, bowling and so on. However, the T20 League is mostly a batter’s paradise with so many top batters from across India and the world, serving some quality moments that crickets crave for.

Amongst them, are the longest sixes that are hit. Yes! The clearing boundaries by batters are one of the most enjoyable moments in the Indian T20 League.

Each team carries one or two players who could hit the ball out of the park.

In the last edition of the Indian T20 League, West Indian Nicholas Pooran smashed a 106-meter long six which was hailed as the longest for the season.

The southpaw is a dynamite at the crease, and it was no surprise to see him hit that long.

However, over the years we’ve seen many faces clear the fence with quite ease – MS Dhoni to Sanju Samson, Chris Gayle to Virat Kohli; IPL is the evidence of many top stars who have been a menace to many top international bowlers.

In the below the article, we detail the players who have hit the longest six in the history of the Indian T20 League:

Albie Morkel (CSK)- 125 metres

Former Proteas all-rounder Albie Morkel was a quite familiar name in the CSK line-up. His bowling did serve up some wickets but timely, it was his batting that helped CSK win matches in the death.

The southpaw Morkel notched his name in the record books when he hit a massive 125-meter six against Pragyan Ojha back in the first edition i.e. 2008 when he was playing for CSK.

Moreover, he is the only player to cross the 125-meter barrier in IPL.

Praveen Kumar (KXIP) – 124-meter

Praveen isn’t known for his batting per se but when it did matter, the former Indian veteran did deliver.

PK’s six landed a huge 124-meter against MI back in 2011 which makes him the only Indian to rake up the top spot in hitting massive sixes goes.

Adam Gilchrist (KXIP) – 122 metres

Well, the Punjab side (then Kings XI Punjab) made sure they weren’t joking around with their batting.

Aussie icon, Adam Gilchrist too made it to the record book when he hit a 122-meter six against KKR’s Charl Langeveldt.

The wicket-keeper batsman isn’t new to hitting big sixes but might have surprised few others or two by the distance that six travelled. By the way, this remains one of the longest sixes in IPL history.

Robin Uthappa (RCB) – 120 metres

Whilst playing for the Bangalore outfit, Robin Uthappa didn’t disappoint with the bat.

He etched so many good innings for them but one moment that the RCB fans will fondly remember is his 120-meter six that he hit at the Brabourne Stadium in the 2010 season off Mumbai Indians.

Who needs a Batman when you have got Robin, eh RCB fans?

Chris Gayle (RCB) – 119 metres

It would be unfitting if West Indian icon Chris Gayle’s name wouldn’t be on this list!

The Jamaican southpaw too holds the record of hitting the most number of sixes in the IPL (349).

He hit a huge six – 119 metres in his innings of 175 off 66 balls that came against Pune Warriors India in the 2013 season.

That innings saw him rake up 17 sixes! It remains one of the most notable and eye-catching IPL innings till date.

Yuvraj Singh (KXIP) – 119 metres

When the IPL was shifted offshores (South Africa) in 2009, many eyes rolled as to how will the batters perform especially in the green-tops.

However, Yuvraj Singh dashed off this notion when he hit a 119 metre six against the mighty CSK which made him a honourable mention in the longest six-hitters in IPL list.

Ross Taylor (RCB) – 119 metres

Another RCB player joining the list is none other than the New Zealand player, Ross Taylor. The former Kiwi skipper too made the list when he hit the massive 119 metre six in the inaugural season of the IPL.

Gautam Gambhir (KKR) – 117 metres

Indian southpaw Gautam Gambhir is not one who is known for hitting massive sixes but here we are, talking about him!

The Delhi batter hit a massive 117-metre six off the bowling of Sreesanth whilst he was captaining the KKR side in the 2017 season of the IPL.

Gambhir’s batting may be of classic timing and stroke play, but when it comes to delivering the KO, the former isn’t going to go down without a fight.

Ben Cutting (SRH) – 117 metres

The Aussie all-rounder Ben Cutting too notched up his name in the hitting list when he hit a 117 metre longest six in the 2016 season for the SRH against the Bangalore outfit.

Cutting’s six came in the opening match of the 2016 season and with few moments like these, saw the Warner-led squad come out all trumps and become the Indian t20 league champs.

Liam Livingstone (PK) – 117 metres

England are one of the top sides when it comes to T20 cricket and mostly it’s down to their quality batters like Jos Buttler and Liam Livingstone who are lighting up the ongoing 2022 Indian t20 league season.

The Englishman is not new to hitting huge sixes and he did just that when sent the ball out of the park against Gujarat.

His cameo lasted mere 10 balls, but it consisted of 3 sixes as he scored an unbeaten 30.

Indian T20 League has seen some various kind of six-hitters like Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers, Jos Buttler, MS Dhoni amongst many who use their brute strength and ability to hit the ball out of the park.

While rely on mere stroke play, some don’t – that’s how the T20 rolls! 2022 season isn’t done yet and that’s brings up the question – Who will hit the BIGGEST SIX this season?
